Dentigerous Cyst Explained: Features, Radiology & High-Yield Exam Facts
🔎Dentigerous Cyst Made Easy
🧠 What Is a Dentigerous Cyst?
🔹️A dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst that forms around the crown of an unerupted or impacted tooth, with the cyst lining attached at the cementoenamel junction (CEJ).
🔹️It develops due to fluid accumulation between the reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown, leading to cyst formation.
🧬 Origin & Pathogenesis
Dentigerous cyst arises from:
Reduced enamel epithelium, or
Enamel organ remnants
⬆ Pressure from erupting teeth → fluid accumulation → cystic expansion.
This makes it one of the most common odontogenic cysts after radicular cyst.
