🔹The muscles of the head and neck perform crucial roles: facial expression, mastication, speech, swallowing, and neck movements.
🔹Classified based on location and function.
🔍 MUSCLES OF FACIAL EXPRESSION
Supplied by Facial Nerve (CN VII)
Located in subcutaneous tissue – insert into skin, not bone
➡️ Main Groups & Examples:
Scalp: Occipitofrontalis
Around eye: Orbicularis oculi
Around nose: Nasalis
Around mouth: Orbicularis oris, Levator labii, Buccinator, Zygomaticus major
Neck: Platysma
🔍 MUSCLES OF MASTICATION
Supplied by Mandibular nerve (V3 of CN V)
Insert on mandible – help in chewing (elevation, depression, side movement)
